Gombe PDP Rejects LG Poll Results, Alleges Lack Of Credibility

The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the outcome of the recently concluded local government areas and local council development areas elections in the state.

Addressing journalist in a press briefing on Tuesday, in Gombe, the party’s public relations officer, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, described the local government polls as lacking transparency and credibility.

The PDP said it boycotted the polls because it believed the process did not provide a level playing field for opposition parties, alleging that the exercise failed to meet democratic standards.

The opposition party maintained that the elections were a mockery of the democratic process, claiming that the conduct of the polls reinforced its decision not to participate.

The PDP also criticised the ongoing demolition of structures by the Gombe State Government, arguing that although the exercise was being carried out under the guise of enforcing land management regulations, it had generated tension and affected the rights of some residents. The party further faulted comments allegedly made by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya in a viral video, saying public officials should uphold the dignity and integrity of citizens.

On the eviction of Gombawa Motors from the state-owned Ibrahim Dankwambo Mega Motor Park, the PDP alleged that the transport company was unfairly targeted over its perceived political affiliation with the party.

PDP argued that the facility belongs to the people of Gombe State and should remain open to all qualified transport operators without discrimination or intimidation.

The party called on the state government to respect democratic principles, protect the rights of citizens and ensure fairness in governance.
