The minister of state for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon Bello Muhammad Goronyo, has said that the upgrade of the Gombe regional water supply project would greatly boost food production in the country.
The minister stated this during a courtesy visit to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House, Gombe, as part of a three-day familiarisation tour of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority (UBRBDA).
Hon Goronyo commended the Gombe State Government for the level of work done on the partnership projects between the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the state government.
The minister revealed that the Federal Government is contributing 30 percent of the contract sum while the Gombe State government is contributing 70 percent stressing that the project aligns with the National Water Supply and Sanitation Policy.
He noted that the project has reached a 90 percent completion level, adding that what remains to be done is the installation of the electro-mechanical equipment which has already been procured.
Goronyo commissioned two out of the six PEWASH projects executed in Gombe Metropolis and also inspected several other projects affiliated with the collaboration of the UBRBDA and the Gombe State Government during the familiarisation tour.
The minister also inspected the Bubayero Gully Flood and Erosion Control Project constructed by the UBRBDA, along with the Dadin-Kowa Dam, Power Plant and 2,100 hectares of land being developed by the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) to boost food production in the country, aligning with the Renewed Hope and Food Security Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
He urged other state governors to emulate the worthy engagement and unwavering collaboration of Gombe State Government and the Federal Government in execution of projects that would be of huge benefits to the masses.
The minister also paid a courtesy visit to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State during which he reiterated the need for the Adamawa State Government to collaborate with his ministry through the UBRBDA in the priority areas of the 8-point Agenda of President Tinubu.
Governor Fintiri pledged his government’s commitment and collaboration with the praiseworthy initiatives of the Federal Government.
Other areas visited included the Kiri Dam near Kiri Town in Shelleng LGA of Adamawa State and the Dangote Savannah Sugar factory.
Hon Goronyo and his entourage also paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, Lamido, Alh Muhammadu Barkindo.
