The All Progressives Congress (APC) Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation, has vowed to resolve the conflicts within the party.

The committee chaired by the Yobe state governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, gave this indication after its inaugural meeting held in Abuja on Monday to map out strategies of resolving pending conflicts and other potential threats to the party.

The panel inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in December last year consisted of the governors of Kwara State, Abdulrahman AbduRazak; Imo State, Hope Uzodimma; Benue State, Hyacinth Alia; Kaduna State Uba Sani; Rivers State Siminalayi Fubara; Jigawa State, Umar Namadi; Cross River State, Bassey Otu; Ekiti State, Abiodun Oyebanji; and Delta State Sheriff Oborevwori as members.

Others include Senator Adamu Aliero, minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle; former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on Political Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Masari; and Muiz Banire (SAN) as secretary.

The director general, Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe State Governor, Mamman Mohammed said Buni urged members of the panel “not to allow personal interest and sentiments to override the general interest and purpose for which this committee is constituted.”

The Yobe governor had at the inauguration of the team last December, said  “the committee will adopt strategic engagements and wide consultations to develop an all-encompassing and productive results that will stand the test of time to give both the old and new members, especially aggrieved parties, a sense of belonging and inclusion, with a renewed hope.

“Similarly, the committee will consider proactive measures and solutions to potential threats in our conflict resolution approach,” Buni said.

Some states chapters of the APC such as Benue and Rivers states have been engulfed in conflicts.

So far, the most prominent APC crisis are in Benue, Delta and Rivers.

In Benue, the APC is factionalise between the supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia, styled “masses” and those of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume christened, “stakeholders.”

For Rivers, the crack in APC deepened with the recent defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the state leadership under Tony Okocha seems to more aligned with the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike despite the governor being declared leader of the party in the state.

The defection of Governor Sheriff Oboriewori into the APC had created a rift in the party, as former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, the 2023 APC govenrorship candidate, has yet to fully accept the governor’s control of the party’s structure in the state.
