Akwa Ibom State governor, Umo Eno, has applauded the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries in the state, where incumbent Senators Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom North-West), Ekong Sampson (Akwa Ibom South) and Aniekan Bassey (Akwa Ibom North-East) emerged unopposed.

Eno described the exercise as rancour-free and well-organised, saying the turnout across the state reflected growing confidence in the party.

The governor made the remarks in an interview after participating in the Uyo Senatorial District primary election held at Ibiakpan, Obotim Ward II, in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area.

He said the large turnout witnessed across the various senatorial primaries was a clear indication of the party’s acceptance and grassroots strength.

According to him, the enthusiasm of party members demonstrated support not only for the APC but also for ongoing development efforts in the state and the country.

“For my ward, you can see for yourself the mammoth crowd. This is how it will continue to be. The love of Akwa Ibom people for the APC is very strong, and that’s what you are seeing throughout these primaries,” he said.

Eno noted that even where candidates were unopposed, the exercise still served as a test of the party’s strength and cohesion ahead of future elections.

“Even though some of the candidates are unopposed, this is to test our strength. You can see that all of our people have come out and they are firm across the state, and it has been very peaceful across the state,” he added.

The governor congratulated Senator Aniekan Bassey and other successful candidates across the state, describing their emergence as a reflection of unity within the party.

He also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that Akwa Ibom would continue to demonstrate strong backing for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
