Adamawa State governor, Alhaji Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved the immediate suspension of the executive secretary of the Adamawa State Post Primary Schools Management Board, Mr Birsan Penuel, over alleged irregularities in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The suspension is to allow for a thorough investigation into the matter.
In the interim, the most senior director in the board has been directed to take over its affairs and ensure the uninterrupted continuation of its activities.
The governor said the administration remains committed to sanitising and repositioning the education sector for improved service delivery.
“This administration remains committed to sanitising and repositioning the education sector for improved service delivery.
The measures put in place by this administration over the last seven years, including the massive recruitment of qualified teachers, rehabilitation and construction of classrooms, provision of instructional materials, and regular payment of salaries and allowances, have helped reverse the negative trends that once bedevilled the sector.”
Fintiri reiterated his determination to build a functional, effective and credible post-primary education system in Adamawa State.
“I will not look back in taking the necessary steps, no matter how tough, to protect the integrity of the system and ensure that our children receive the quality education they deserve,” Governor Fintiri said.
The government therefore warned all political appointees and public officers to uphold due process, transparency and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“Any act that undermines the progress made in the education sector will be dealt with decisively,” according to a statement signed by Humwashi Wonosikou.
