Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has expressed support for the establishment of State Police, saying it is a critical step toward strengthening Nigeria’s security system.
The governor stated this while receiving the DIG in charge of the Force Intelligence Department, Zachariah Fera Achinyan and the Coordinating DIG for the North-East, Ibrahim Babazango, during a courtesy visit at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo.
Kefas disclosed that extensive consultations had already been conducted on the State Police initiative and expressed confidence that governors across the country would make meaningful contributions to ensure its successful implementation.
He maintained that, strengthening security institutions remains essential to protecting lives and property.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining peace across Taraba State.
Earlier, DIG Achinyang said the Inspector-General of Police, Olstunji Rilwan Disu, had directed senior police officers to embark on visits to the six geopolitical zones of the country in response to emerging security challenges.
According to him, the nationwide operational tour was aimed at assessing the preparedness of police formations to tackle evolving security threats, strengthen intelligence gathering and evaluate collaboration between the police and key stakeholders.
The DIG emphasized sustained partnership among security agencies, government and communities is vital to combating crime and enhancing public safety.
He also commended the gains recorded in Taraba State, noting that he had been briefed on the successes achieved by the state command in the fight against criminality.
He said, his visit was intended to consolidate those gains and reinforce the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace and security in the state.
