Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that his administration would not fail in its statutory responsibilities to the scheme in the state.
The governor made the pledge during the swearing in ceremony for the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members posted to the state for the one year compulsory service.
Governor Mohammed, who said that the people of Bauchi State appreciated and supported the goals and objectives of the NYSC, added that his government had been collaborating with the scheme in every possible way to ensure its success in the state.
“Considering the NYSC programme as a catalyst for accelerated national development, I urge you to take the nation’s call to selfless service with utmost seriousness.
“The future of this country rests in your hands. You have a crucial role to play in shaping our collective destiny and you must not misuse this unique opportunity.
“It is now your responsibility to seize this opportunity and make the best use of it during the orientation exercise. May I urge you to justify the trust the nation has in you,” the governor said.
Earlier, the NYSC state coordinator, Mr Umoren Kufre, appreciated the governor for his continuous support to the scheme in the state, especially the complete renovation of corps members’ hostels and the construction of a new multipurpose hall in the camp.
“May I also use this opportunity to register our profound appreciation to the governor for his intervention in rebuilding the broken parts of the camp perimeter fence which had posed security threats to the camp community.
“We equally remain grateful to him for prioritising the welfare and security of corps members in the state,” he said.
Kufre, who disclosed that a total of 1,700 corps members were posted to the state, assured that they would come up with community development service projects that would have direct impact on the members of their host communities.
Justice Aliyu Idris, a representative of the state’s Chief Judge, Rabi Talatu, swore in the corps members.
