Kogi State governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has assured the people of Bassa local government area that his administration remains committed to improving infrastructure and their living conditions.

He pledged to commence work on the Odenyi–Oguma Road after the rainy season.

The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating the reconstruction of the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina Road, a federal road, through sustained engagement with the Federal Ministry of Works.

Ododo gave the assurances on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation of Bassa stakeholders and the Bassa Ododo Women 2027 Group at the Government House in Lokoja.

On behalf of the delegation, the commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, commended the governor for his achievements in infrastructure development, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, social welfare programmes and improved security across the state.

He, however, drew the governor’s attention to key developmental challenges facing Bassa LGA, including the poor state of the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina and Odenyi–Oguma roads, the need to renovate healthcare facilities and public schools, as well as the provision of potable water to communities across the area’s three districts.

Responding, Governor Ododo said work on the Odenyi–Oguma Road would commence immediately after the rainy season.

On the Shintaku–Gboloko–Dekina Road, he revealed that the commissioner for works had, on his directive, visited the minister of works twice to press for the completion of the federal road project being handled by TEC Engineering.

The governor assured the delegation that his administration would continue to engage the federal government until the project is completed.

Addressing concerns over healthcare infrastructure, Ododo directed the commissioner for Commerce and Industry to liaise with the commissioner for Health to identify priority health facilities requiring intervention.

On the return of displaced residents of Ibiroko community in Mozum District, the governor directed the stakeholders to assess the cost of resettling the affected persons and submit the report to the government for necessary action.

Responding to requests from the women, through their representative, Mrs Grace Tukura, Governor Ododo approved additional appointments for women and directed the stakeholders to submit nominees from the four wards that were previously not represented.
