The signing of the Nasarawa State Electricity Law 2024 is a significant step in achieving the required legislation to operate its electricity services in the state.

The legal document titled: “The Nasarawa State Electricity Law 2024″, was assented to by Governor Sule at a ceremony in Government House in Lafia, the state capital.

LEADERSHIP reports that a constitutional amendment signed into law by the former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 empowered the 36 states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in regions covered by the national grid.

The law titled: “The Fifth Alteration Bill No. 33, Devolution of Powers (National Grid System)”, stipulated that states can enter the electricity generation business.

Speaking while assenting to the law, Governor Sule said the electricity law which stems from the presidential initiative will allow Nasarawa State utilise the hydro and solar energy sources that abound in the state.

He said his administration will bring on board experts, who will make the power initiative come to fruition.

On his part, the General Manager, Nasarawa State Electric Power Agency, NAePA, Engr Yakubu Sulaiman appreciated Gov. Sule and the House of Assembly for making the law become a reality.

Engr. Suleiman said the electricity law is a fallout of the need to regulate the affairs of electricity within the state, leading to the establishment of a commission to that effect in order to boost power supply in the state.
