The coordinator of Ishielu Development Centre in Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State and an aide of Governor David Umahi, Hon Sunday Agwu, has died in an accident on the Enugu-Abakaliki Road.
The unfortunate incident which had thrown the people of Ezillo community and Ishielu council into mourning occurred during the Christmas celebration on Sunday.
The council chairman, Hon Obinna Onwe who described Agwu’s death as unfortunate said the deceased was a team player, philanthropist and consummate administrator.
Onwe said the coordinator was traveling to the village to celebrate the yuletide with the less privileged in his community.
He described the death of Agwu as a colossal loss to the council and the state and called on the family of the deceased to take consolation in the Lord as only God knows the real reason behind every event on earth.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the accident was yet to be ascertained though unconfirmed reports indicated that it was due to overspeeding. An unofficial source said the victim died in his private vehicle on the Enugu-Abakaliki Road.
Agwu reportedly died yesterday morning while receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital and the corpse had been deposited at the mortuary.
The victim was one of the strong pillars of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state whose demise may affect the chances of the party in the council in next year’s general election.
Another aide to the governor was shot dead by suspected kidnappers a few weeks ago in Anambra State.
The victim, who was a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly Service Commission, Barrister Leonard Chibuzor Alegu, was killed by unknown gunmen.
It was gathered that the incident occurred in the late hours of Saturday, December 17 on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Umunya community, Oyi local government area of Anambra State.
