Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf on Saturday commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the recent bye-election in Kano State, declaring that the era of election violence in the state was over.

The governor described the exercise as a milestone in Kano’s democratic process, citing the calm atmosphere across polling units as evidence of improved security coordination and political maturity among voters.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, Yusuf expressed appreciation to residents of Kano Municipal and Ungogo State Assembly constituencies, where the poll was conducted, for their orderly participation.

He also lauded political parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress, for complying with electoral rules and avoiding actions that could undermine the process.

“For the first time in recent history, we witnessed an election free of crisis, use of weapons and manipulation in Kano. The era of killing, maiming and disenfranchising voters is over,” the governor said.

Yusuf added that the peaceful outing signalled the state’s readiness to embrace issue-based politics founded on dialogue and tolerance.

He assured residents that his administration would continue to safeguard lives and property and work closely with electoral authorities and security agencies to ensure future polls remain credible and violence-free.

Governor Yusuf said the initiative was part of his administration’s social intervention programmes aimed at assisting the less privileged and cushioning the effects of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan.
