Gov Yusuf Presents N549.1bn 2025 Budget To Kano Assembly

Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Yusuf, on Friday presented the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N549,160,417,663.00 to the state House of Assembly for approval.

The governor who described the proposed budget as a ā€˜Budget of Hope, Human Capital and Economic Development,’ said most of the capital spending will be in the social and economic sectors to the tune of N461,447,963,240.86.

He stated that the total capital expenditure stood at N312,634,912,672.18 billion while recurrent expenditure stood at N236,525,504,990.82 billion, noting that when approved, it is projected to have a ratio of capital to recurrent of 57:43 percent respectively.

Governor Yusuf explained that 31 percent of the budget is allocated to Education (N168,350,802,346,19), Health 16.5 percent (N90,600,835,766.48), Agriculture – 3.8 percent ( N21,038,199,190.76), Infrastructural development – 12.8 (N70,682,843,744.15), Manufacturing, Commerce, Industry and Tourism – 1.2 percent (N3,887,338,871.45), Environment and Sanitation – 2.8 percent (N15,523,154,078.47) while governance and institutions takes 17.5 percent (N98,242,089,019.58) of the budget.

He added that security, justice and emergency services was allocated 4 percent (N23,457,527,026.06), water supply and rural development 4.9 percent (N27,235,112,601.05), transport development – 2.3 percent (N12,805,155,000), women, youth and people with special needs were allocated 3.2 percent (N17,337,360,000).

The governor however disclosed that government will prioritise human capital and infrastructural development and also ensure an increase access to quality education, despite the meager resources available to the government.

“We promise to faithfully implement the provisions of this Budget for the general good and well-being of our people. We will not relent in our resolve to alleviate poverty and restore hope, create wealth, generate employment, stimulate agriculture, improve electricity and maximise the overall well-being of our people.

“I beseech you therefore to hastily consider and approve the 2025 Budget Proposals”, he requested.
