Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has described the defection of the Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as painful and disappointing.
The former Kano governor said NNPP’s victory in Kano State was birthed through immense sacrifice under the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Yusuf was recently officially accepted into the APC alongside his political allies.
In a video shared on the Facebook page of one Sunusi Oscar, Kwankwaso said he found it difficult to understand why a government formed through the ideology and structure of Kwankwasiyya was “suddenly moved” into what he described as Gandujiyya, the political camp associated with former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
“This government was formed with a lot of sacrifice, but without any clear reason that we know, it was taken away from our Kwankwasiyya structure and moved elsewhere,” he lamented.
Kwankwaso described the development as painful and disappointing, adding that only God knows the real motives behind the sudden political shift.
He, however, expressed hope that the outcome would, in the end, turn out well for his supporters and the people of the state.
The former governor also congratulated members of the Kano State House of Assembly who emerged victorious in the recent elections held in Ungogo and parts of Kano Municipal, even though he observed that voter turnout was relatively low.
Kwankwaso concluded by extending goodwill to all Kwankwasiyya loyalists.
He noted that supporters and government officials who have followed the governor into the APC still have an open door should they choose to return to the movement.
Meanwhile, Kwankwaso paid a condolence visit to former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, following the death of his elder brother, Malam Dahiru Shekarau.
Kwankwaso visited Shekarau at his residence in Kano on Sunday to commiserate with him and members of his family over the loss.
He was accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Kwankwaso expressed deep sympathy to the former governor and prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannah, and give the entire family the strength to bear this loss,” he prayed.
