Nigerian on-air personality, Oladotun Ojuolape Kayode, popularly known as ‘Do2dtun’, has said Nigerians should not rely on celebrities to speak out against insecurity.

In a post on X, he said public figures are criticised whether they speak up or remain silent.

According to him, holding the government accountable is the responsibility of every citizen, not just a few individuals.

Do2dtun added that celebrities who speak out often face attacks, while others choose to stay silent to avoid criticism. He urged Nigerians to use their own platforms and focus on leaders responsible for addressing the country’s challenges.

In his words:

”The ones that speak up, you bash them into depression. Now it has become a bandwagon for a set of people who just do it to move their lives in peace, or don’t at all to have peace. You have insulted them into oblivion. Let everyone use their platform. Nigeria do not treat them differently. It is not JUST their duty to hold the government accountable. It is our DUTY. Face the ones that sold you out.”

Do2dtun said fear and past experiences have left many Nigerians quick to shift blame rather than address problems together.

He argued that people often look for solutions in the wrong places and direct criticism at the wrong individuals.

He described it as hypocritical for people who do not use their own platforms to drive change to criticise those who do.

He added:

”Nigerians, we are our biggest problem. We are so traumatised that we only look for people to attack over a disease that affects us all. We look for the cure with the wrong people, in the wrong places. A herbalist can only proffer a solution, but he won’t use it on your behalf. Anything you see after his prescription, na only you feel am when e burst. What’s sickening is that you will see people who don’t do anything with their platforms but attack those who do. It’s HYPOCRISY of the highest order.”
