Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has met with the officials of the World Bank and the Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project to discuss measures to improve synergy and scale up services to improve the lives of people affected by insurgency.

In a press statement signed by the  director general press and media affairs Mamman Mohammed, Buni expressed the need to enhance agricultural production to ensure food sufficiency and security.

He said there was urgent need to effectively enhance  agricultural productivity for food security and economic development.

Buni charged the international bodies to check the bureaucratic bottlenecks in their organisations retarding  speedy support to communities faced with humanitarian disasters.

According to the statement, the delay involved slows down the speed of reaching out to provide support to the affected communities, and this should be considered to achieve maximum results.

He added;  “Our youths are ready to go into commercial agriculture to not only meet our food needs but to export it out of the state for economic growth.

“We are targeting food crops and Sesame seeds production, and government is determined to provide the required inputs to make agriculture in Yobe State attractive, productive and profitable.”

The team led by the operations manager and acting country director, Taimur  Samad, said the World Bank was willing to support the state government to actualise its reconstruction, rehabilitation and recovery process to improve the lives of the people.

Similarly, the MCRP Task Team led by Fuad Malkawi assured the governor of continued support in resettlement of displaced persons and future plans on  urban development in the state.
