A few hours to the inauguration of the Benue State governor-elect, Revd. Fr. Hyacinth Iornem Alia, a group under the aegis of Alia Alliance has charged him to restore the lost hope of the civil servants, pensioners and rekindle farmers’ confidence in agriculture.
The group made the request at a pre-inauguration dinner for the cleric-turned-politician. In an interview with LEADERSHIP, a member of the group, Kenneth Gyado, said today’s inauguration marks the beginning of a new dawn for the people of Benue especially farmers, civil servants and pensioners who had been relegated to the background for eight years.
According to him, “The governor- elect is very much aware of the yearnings and aspirations of Benue people, we know, expectations are very high but we believe that the incoming government is coming to save lives not to assist people to die.”
He said, “The coming of the new administration will bring hope to the hopeless by building and reviving hospitals that will save lives, reopen and construction of roads that will link communities with nearby markets to enable farmers transport their farm produce to available markets with ease.”
He maintained that Benue is in need of a government that can also build confidence in the minds of investors who usually refer to the people of the state as hostile, to come and invest in the state, especially in the area of agriculture, which the state was noted for in the whole of Africa.
Earlier, the deputy governor-elect, Hon Sam Ode who represented the governor-elect commended the organisers of the dinner and the people of the state for the confidence reposed in them and promised that they will never disappoint the people.
While calling for support before, during and after their inauguration to enable them succeed in their service to humanity, Ode said, “With your support we can change the story of Benue for good.”
