Taraba State governor, Agbu Kefas, has approved the appointment of two third class chiefs from Tsohon Takum and Gar Chamba to settle the disputed traditional stool in Takum.

There has been crisis over the first class chief of Takum (Ukwe Takum) since 1996 after the demise of  the last Ukwe Takum, Alhaji Ali Kufang, which hindered the appointment of his successor for years.

The state House of Assembly recently passed into law a bill for the rotation of the first class stool which was originally occupied by only the Kutec, the rotation involves the Chamba, Jukun and Ketep.

In a press statement signed by the commissioner for information and re-orientation, Bar. Zeinab Jalingo she said, “The State Government is pleased to announce the appointment of two 3rd Class Chiefs in Takum local government area, following their nomination by Takum traditional kingmakers.

“The appointments of the following third class chiefs have been approved by the Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, HRH Uhwe Bala Ephraim as 3rd-Class Chief (Tsohon Jukun Takum). HRH Barr. Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi III as third-Class Chief (Gar Chamba Takum).

“These appointments serve to preserve the rich cultural heritage of Takum and promote community development. HRH Uhwe Bala Ephraim and HRH Barr. Sopiya Ahmadu Gboshi III brings a wealth of experience and demonstrated commitment to their community, respectively. The Taraba State Government extends its congratulations to the newly appointed Royal Chiefs and encourages all stakeholders and residents to support their leadership. Together, they will work towards fostering unity, preserving cultural values, and promoting socio-economic growth in Takum, Taraba State.”
