Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has charged the Governing Council of the State University, Uturu (ABSU), to position the university among the best in Africa.
Otti stated this while inaugurating the council in Umuahia.
He congratulated the chairman and members of the council on their appointments, expressing confidence that they will bring their wealth of experience to bear.
“Without sounding immodest, I must say that for you to have found yourself as one of the people that would change this transformation, you are all outstanding.
“So, we have no doubt that you will do your best to change our university to one of the best universities in the country, in fact Africa.”
“It means a whole lot, a lot of confidence. All of you are people of integrity, people who have good records, people who we can rely on their words,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the council, the pro-chancellor and chairman, Hon Agwu Ukakwu. Agwu, expressed gratitude to Otti for the trust reposed on them.
“We want to assure you that we are going to hit the ground running today. We will leave no stone unturned. We will not fail you, we will not fail ourselves, we will not fail.”
“We assure you that the university is going to become the number one school especially at the State level in the next three to four years”, said the one-time speaker of the state Assembly.
