Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, has reiterated his administration’s resolve in boosting the socioeconomic life of rural communities through the provision of massive infrastructure, saying that communities like Nok with great historical values are uppermost in his administration’s agenda.
Sani spoke when he flagged off the commencement of Free Medical Outreach at the Primary Health Care Nok which heralds the beginning of the 20th edition of the community’s National Day of prayers and thanksgiving.
Speaking through the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon Mamman Lagos, Sani commended the people of Nok Community for considering it necessary to gather as a people to seek the face of God and equally offer other humanitarian support in the form of health services which clearly demonstrated their adherence to religious obligations.
The governor acknowledged the centrality of Nok Community in the history of Kaduna State, Nigeria, and Sub-Sahara Africa through her rich cultural heritage and famous Nok Terracotta Figurine.
He also urged the community to sustain the legacies in order not to be on the global map for what is already known, (which is her rich cultural heritage) but also to be recognised as a hub for medical tourism in the state and the country as a whole.
On his part, the administrator of Jaba LGC, Hon. Mrs. Nita Byack George expressed her profound gratitude and joy to the people of Nok Community over their relentless efforts towards maintaining the rich historical legacies of the Nok people through total devotion to God Almighty and medical tourism.
The administrator, while reaffirming her administration’s unwavering commitment to such humanitarian gestures, applauded the people of Nok Community for demonstrating uncommon spirit of love and care for humanity, and thus called on other communities in the local government area to emulate them.
The president of Nok Community Development Association (NCDA), Mr Elisha Musa alongside the district head of Nok, Mal. Beno Adamu and the head of Nok Medical Team, Dr. Yahaya Domi appreciated the administrator of Jaba LGC and the Kaduna State Government for always identifying with communities in all facets of human engagements.
Also, a statement by the special assistant to the administrator on Media and Communication, Jaba LGC, Danladi Tasha, harped on the interventions of the administration in the community in the areas of health, power, potable water supply, and tourism, among others.
“The community therefore wished the Administrator and Governor Uba Sani success in their great services to humanity, while praying for a more enterprising relationship with the current administration both at local government and state levels.
“Nok National Day of Prayers and Thanksgiving, tagged ‘NOK PRAYS’ is an annual event of great significance organised under the auspices of Nok Community Development Association (NCDA), the community’s development association.
“It is a weeklong event usually held in the second week of November every year where the community gathers together to show gratitude to God for His sufficient grace and blessings upon the community and equally present their needs and supplications to the Lord for his continuous guidance and protection.
“Aside from the spiritual value of the exercise, it has some tourist potential through the medical tourism, health, and business seminars that always characterised the event.
“During the period under review, the community usually witnessed the influx of people from Kaduna, Abuja, Jos, Nasarawa, and the neighboring communities to seek free health services being offered by the sons and daughters of the Nok community who are in the medical line.
“The free medical services offered by the community has in no small measure helped many poor and vulnerable households to regain their health amidst harsh economic realities where accessing such services have been somewhat difficult due to the overstretched affordable health services provided by the government.
“Business seminars and health talks are equally featured during the period where experts in the field of business and health are called upon to educate both the young and old, men and women on how to handle their businesses and health-related issues.
“Spiritual activities such as the two-day retreats are equally featured, with the grand finale of the entire event conducted on the final day where the illustrious sons and daughters of the community from different walks of life gathered at the altar of the Lord in supplication and thanksgiving for God’s numerous blessings and protection over their lives as individuals and community,” he added.
