The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has congratulated the newly elected executive committee members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council.
In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor specifically congratulated Mal. AbdulLateef Ahmed on his re-election as the chairman to lead the Council for another three years.
He urged the newly elected state executive committee of the NUJ to extend hands of fellowship and support to every member of the council, including those who ran for the same offices in the recently held election.
“The election was simply a friendly contest among brothers and sisters of the same fold and should be held as such while everyone works together as a unit, the governor counseled.
AbdulRazaq said the government looks forward to a more robust relationship with the media in the state, anchored on good ethics, mutual respect, and overall interest of the state.
He prayed Allah to grant the newly re-elected chairman and his team the strength and wisdom to do a lot more for the union and humanity.
The speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, has also felicitated with Ahmed on his re-election.
Danladi-Salihu as well rejoiced with other elected council members in a keenly contested poll, according to the report from the NUJ electoral umpire.
“Heartfelt congratulations to the re-elected Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kwara State Chapter, and other elected executive members. This is a well-deserved achievement, and I wish you all the best in your new role. May your leadership continue to bring about positive change and progress to the union and the journalism profession as a whole,” the speaker said in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Sheu Yusuf.
The speaker added that, ” Ahmed’s dedication, expertise, and passion for journalism will undoubtedly inspire and motivate others.”
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) also felicitated with Ahmed on his re-election.
The union extended its felicitations to Mr Yinka Alaya on his emergence as the secretary of the Council.
In a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Nurudeen Ibrahim, the union described the two gentlemen as promising media professionals who are making their marks.
The union similarly congratulated other members of the newly constituted executive council of the NUJ in the state as it reminded them of the need to always mobilize journalists in the state towards remaining agents of peace and development.
The League of Veteran Journalists (NALVEJ) in Kwara State, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations( NIPR) and Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) have hailed the re- election of Ahmed.
Ahmed was on July 31,2024 elected for a second term of office by his colleagues during a peaceful election supervised by officials from the national secretariat of NUJ in Abuja and representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He scored 100 votes to beat his opponent, Dare Akogun who scored 51 votes.
Other officials elected alongside Ahmed are Binta Mora (vice chairman), Yinka Alaya( secretary), Bushra Badmus( treasurer) and Medina Belgore( financial secretary).
In his acceptance speech, Ahmed promised to consolidate on the gains of his first term of office which were the reason he was re-elected by his colleagues with overwhelming majority votes.
In a congratulatory message signed by its chairman, Alh Tunde Akanbi, NALVEJ rejoiced with Ahmed and other elected officials over their well-deserved victory at the poll.
The league implored Ahmed to continue to prioritise the welfare of all journalists in the state and ensure harmonious relationship with every segment of the society, including government, traditional rulers, security agencies and the general populace.
It thanked journalists in the state for their orderly conduct during the election and praised the AbdulHammed Alaye- led credentials committee and NUJ national officials that supervised the election for a job well done.
The Kwara State chapter of ACF in a congratulatory message signed by its chairman, Dr Ghali Alaaya, rejoiced with Ahmed over his re- election for a second term of office.
The ACF praised Ahmed for ensuring stability in the union and the state through his matured handling of issues.
It prayed Allah to grant the NUJ chairman and his team a successful reign and more accomplishments.
Also,the Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) congratulated Ahmed on his his reelection.
It described Ahmed’s victory as a popular validation of the acceptance of his person and leadership to continue to serve.
The NIPR statement was jointly signed by its chairman, Mr Gabriel Ogunade and secretary, Mr Abdul Rahman Sanni.
The NIPR expressed confidence in the ability of the renewed leadership to continue to move the state council of the NUJ to greater height, going by his pedigree and achievements.
It also felicitated with other members of the new executive, over their victory at the poll.
The statement which called for a more united and vibrant NUJ in the state, enjoined media practitioners in the state to perceive the electioneering process and its outcomes as one of no victor, no vanquished.
