Governorship, Assembly Elections Will Hold As Scheduled – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed that the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 11, 2023 will hold as scheduled.

The nation’s electoral body also said it will conduct the re-scheduled National Assembly elections in Enugu and Edo states on Saturday, 11th March, 2023 along with the governorship and State Assembly elections.

A statement by the national commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, and made available to LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday, said all the processes and procedures leading to the election are being finalised.

It said in some senatorial districts and federal constituencies that declarations and returns were not made, the Commission is compiling the list of the affected constituencies and a date for supplementary elections will be fixed after the governorship and State Assembly elections.

The Commission said the decision was taken during its regular weekly meeting yesterday, Thursday 2nd March, 2023, where it deliberated on several issues, including the presidential and National Assembly elections, the governorship and State Assembly elections, and the pending elections in Enugu East Senatorial District and the Esan Central/Esan West and Igueben Federal Constituencies in Edo State.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has called on the security agencies to work round the clock to ensure law and order is maintained before, during and after the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

The council said it is through the maintenance of law and order that a credible, free and fair election would be observed.

It expressed optimism in winning the oncoming gubernatorial elections having won the just concluded presidential election in the Council.

The director-general of the campaign council, Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, called on the people of Kano to come out en masse and vote APC in the state for progress and development to thrive in the state.

The council emerged from an emergency meeting which reviewed  the campaign highlights, and the DG also announced that the party has resumed its campaign activities and wants the public to continue to remain law abiding

He praised the effort of the security agencies for working assiduously to ensure law and order, while calling on them to enforce the law before, during and after the governorship election.
