Worried by the prolonged power outage in the Northern part of the country, northern leaders, including governors and traditional rulers, on Monday, met in Kaduna State to discuss the problem and other regional issues.

For over a week, most northern states in the country had been experiencing blackout, causing businesses to suffer and residents living in darkness amid hot weather.

The meeting was convened by the Northern States’ Governors Forum and chaired by governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya.

In his opening remarks, Governor Yahaya raised concerns about the power outage caused by vandalism of critical power infrastructure, calling for investments in new transmission lines and energy diversification to prevent future disruptions.

He also stressed the need to move beyond symbolic meetings, urging the forum and the traditional rulers council to develop practical and results-oriented strategies tailored to the region’s unique challenges.

“The time to walk the talk is now,” he said, expressing confidence that unity, determination, and bold leadership would steer the region towards a more prosperous future.

On the part of the traditional institutions, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, emphasised the critical role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and stability in the region.

He reiterated the need for honest discussions about the root causes of insecurity, including poverty and unemployment, calling for decisive actions from political leaders to address the challenges bevelling the North.
