A 50-year-old woman, Aisha Sagir, and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, have been killed following a devastating rainstorm that swept through Unguwar Katsinawa in Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning after a heavy downpour was accompanied by strong winds that hit the community, leaving behind a trail of destruction.
The storm also destroyed several houses, livestock and other valuable property estimated to be worth millions of naira, leaving many residents displaced and counting losses.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, said police operatives from the Kirfi Divisional Headquarters visited the scene to assess the level of damage and help restore order in the affected area.
He expressed condolences to the government and people of Kirfi Local Government Area over the tragedy, and sympathised with the bereaved family, praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
CP Aliyu assured residents that the command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, residents were urged to remain vigilant during the rainy season and report emergencies promptly to security agencies for quick response and assistance.
