The Plateau Youth in Politics Group (PYPG) has described moves to exclude the Ngas ethnic group from contesting the governorship seat, saying it is not just divisive but aimed at erasing the aspirations of a major group.
The convener, Comrade Golu Nenfort, stated this while addressing a news conference in Jos yesterday.
He said the campaign threatens the delicate balance and spirit of brotherhood that Plateau State desperately needs.
He lamented that some of the aspirants of Mwaghavul extraction seemed to be selling this narrative, adding that very soon, they would begin to call their names because the state’s unity was not negotiable.
The group added that the central argument being peddled by political pundits against the Ngas candidacy was the elevation of one of their sons, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to the position of national chairman of the APC.
He maintained that Plateau State’s history was one of diverse groups co-existing and managing power through a balance of interests, adding that to deliberately and strategically seek to deny a major ethnic group such as the Ngas was against their fundamental right an assault on the principles of equity and fairness.
