The Northern Youth Frontiers (North West Zone) has refuted recent remarks by former Kano State governor and new Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has neglected Northern Nigeria in its development agenda.

In a press statement released yesterday, the group’s North West coordinator, Saminu Tukur, described Kwankwaso’s comments as “misleading” and “politically motivated.” Tukur accused the politician of stirring unnecessary controversy rather than contributing to meaningful national dialogue.

“We recognise the importance of political discourse in our democratic process,” Tukur stated, “but it is crucial that such discussions are grounded in truth and constructive engagement rather than unfounded claims.”

Kwankwaso had claimed that the Tinubu-led administration has marginalised the North in key developmental policies and projects.

However, Tukur dismissed the claims as a strategic ploy to pressure the government to reveal its regional achievements.

According to the youth leader, President Tinubu’s government has launched and implemented numerous impactful projects across Northern Nigeria in the past two years, especially in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and energy.

“These initiatives are not mere promises,” Tukur said. “They represent a tangible commitment to addressing the multifaceted challenges facing the region.”

He cited several examples, including road and bridge construction to improve connectivity and economic activity, agricultural reforms designed to enhance productivity and food security, and healthcare investments to expand access to quality medical services.

Tukur also warned Northern youths against being drawn into political conflicts, urging them to prioritise unity, development, and accountability over partisan divides.

“We call upon the youth of Northern Nigeria to resist the temptation to be used by unscrupulous and desperate politicians,” he said. “History has shown that such tactics often lead to conflict and strife, diverting attention from the real issues at hand and hindering progress.”

The Northern Youth Frontiers emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and citizens in addressing the region’s challenges. They called for a collective effort to ensure development reaches all parts of the North.

“We reaffirm our commitment to advocating for the truth and promoting the interests of the people of Northern Nigeria,” the statement concluded. “We stand firm in our belief that the Tinubu administration is dedicated to the development of the region, and the ongoing projects are a testament to this commitment.”

The group called on all Northerners, especially the youth, to stay engaged and vigilant in promoting peace, transparency, and equitable growth.
