The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Good Governance (CCSO-GG) has commended the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his remarkable transformation and record-breaking achievements in the office.
Speaking at the press conference yesterday in Abuja, National Secretary Dr. Abdulkadir Shuaibu, said under his leadership NCS had emerged as a shining example of what is possible with visionary leadership, strategic innovation, and unwavering dedication.
He noted that upon his appointment, Adeniyi inherited a complex mandate to enhance revenue generation, suppress smuggling, and facilitate legitimate trade, all while restoring public confidence in the Service.
According to him, today, the results speak for themselves, painting a picture of a service reborn and re-energised.
He stressed that it had consistently surpassed its revenue targets, setting new collection records. Shuaibu added that this fiscal prowess was not merely about numbers, but reflected a more efficient, automated, and blockage-proof system that had significantly widened the tax net and boosted the nation’s coffers.
According to him, there has been a sustained and intelligence-driven offensive against smuggling activities, leading to the interception of large quantities of prohibited items, including arms and ammunition, illicit drugs, and substandard goods, thereby protecting national security, local industries, and the health of Nigerians.
He added, “In building strategic collaboration and Public Engagement he has broken down silos by fostering stronger ties with sister security agencies and, most importantly, by engaging in constructive dialogue with the public, stakeholders, and the media. This open-door policy has demystified the Service and built invaluable bridges of trust.
Shuaibu said, “His vision is often determined by its execution at the grassroots level. In this regard, the Coalition singles out for special praise, Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar, the Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Command. His leadership exemplifies the “leading-by-example” ethos of the CGC and has made the Command one of the most productive in the nation.
‘He has redefined the limits of the possible within a government agency.
‘We urge the entire leadership and rank and file of the NCS to sustain this positive momentum. This is the path to a more secure, prosperous, and economically vibrant Nigeria. The nation is watching, and we are immensely proud.’
