A non-governmental organisation (NGO), International Climate Change Development Initiative has intensified efforts to transfer knowledge on the impact of climate change and net-zero emissions to stakeholders in Enugu State.

Last weekend, the group organised a workshop for the stakeholders in some local government areas in Enugu State to raise awareness on emission reductions and climate change mitigation in Nigeria.

Stakeholders from Enugu North, Enugu South, Enugu East and Nkanu West local government areas attended it.

At the programme, the executive director of the International Climate Change Initiative, Olumide Idowu, said there was a report that some states were not paying attention to climate change.

He stated that some people, including stakeholders, needed to be better informed about climate change issues, including net zero, and added that there is a gap in knowledge transfer about the problems.

Idowu explained that they want to simplify and explain what net-zero emissions is all about and make communities, especially at the local government level, understand what climate change is all about.

He added that they were trying to transfer knowledge to the local government stakeholders so that they would also inculcate the programs they were implementing in the areas.

He averred that they wanted to carry out the knowledge transfer to people so that they could understand how to tackle climate change issues in Enugu State.

Idowu explained further that they were doing similar projects in Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Benin, and Lagos states, in addition to Enugu.

He said they were in Igboetiti in Enugu State last year for the local people. He stated that they would eventually combine the two outputs, prepare an action plan, and give it to the ministry.
