A humanitarian organisation, Global Initiative for Peace, Love and Care (GIPLC) has arranged for the departure of conjoined twins, Hassana and Hussaina, to India for separation surgery.

The twins along with 11 other children received N300 million from donors, collaborators and stakeholders a month ago to access life-saving medical interventions.

The fund was provided through GIPLC, an organisation dedicated to supporting children with severe health conditions.

Father of the twins, Mr. Ashiru Muhammad who traveled to India yesterday with his wife and children, expressed optimism that upon their return to Nigeria, they would be successfully separated and able to lead individual lives.

He said, “We have been with the children for five years. Although we made numerous attempts to have the surgery performed here in Nigeria, it did not materialise.

“We also attempted to go to Saudi Arabia for medical separation free of charge for over a year but that effort fell through because of personal interests of some individuals. Now, the NGO, GIPLC, under the leadership of Mr. Nuhu Kwajafa, has come to support their separation.

“Our expectation is that the surgery will be successful, based on the doctor’s approval letter confirming that they can perform the surgery.

“So, we are praying to Allah SWT for a successful surgery and for us to return to Nigeria with the children as independent individuals, by God’s grace,” he said.

The national coordinator of GIPLC, Nuhu Kwajafa, expressed joy that the conjoined twins were finally on their way for their surgery. Today is a special day because Hassana and Hussaina are finally leaving for India for their surgery, which we have all anticipated for a long time.
