As Anambra State prepares for its governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, Citizen Monitors has launched an election-monitoring web application designed to enhance transparency and citizen participation in the electoral process.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Olajumoke Alawode-James, the organisation disclosed that the platform enables voters and observers to record, verify, and view real-time election reports from polling units across the state.

Explaining the motivation behind the initiative, Adeshope Haastrup, co-founder of Citizen Monitors, said the app is designed to promote transparency and accountability. “Trust grows when people can see the evidence. With this app, Anambra can protect its polling units with facts, not noise,” he said.

According to Citizen Monitors, the tool creates a verifiable public record of polling place activities by allowing users to capture and upload images or videos of result sheets and election-day incidents.
Alawode-James added that the platform empowers citizens to play an active role in safeguarding the election’s credibility. “Our message is simple: see it, record it, verify it. If each unit plays its part, election day becomes clearer and safer for everyone,” she stated.

Citizen Monitors emphasised that safety and neutrality remain central to the initiative. The organisation urged users to maintain a safe distance while observing, avoid sharing personal data, and remember that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains the sole authority that declares election results.

According to the group, the platform is not designed to replace INEC’s functions but to provide citizens with a transparent, evidence-based record of events at polling stations, reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process.
