First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has called on Nigerians to rise above political affiliations and unite to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.

Speaking during her two-day working visit to Enugu State on Monday, the First Lady emphasised that Nigeria’s diversity should be seen as a blessing, and not a barrier.

“As leaders, we are responsible for taking care of all Nigerians, political affiliation notwithstanding,” she said. “Nigeria is a beautiful country, and no one should hinder anyone from visiting any part of it to experience that beauty. We pray for improved security and a nation where everyone can move around safely.”

According to a statement by her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu made the comments while addressing traditional rulers in the State.

She described the monarchs as “the eyes and ears of government at the grassroots” and urged them to support her advocacy campaigns against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and female genital mutilation (FGM).

She also introduced some of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s upcoming projects, including Flow with Confidence, aimed at ensuring no adolescent girl misses school due to menstruation, and the Environment Club/Society, which will encourage students in secondary and tertiary institutions to participate in environmental restoration efforts.

The First Lady’s visit to Enugu marked the conclusion of a nationwide distribution of professional kits to midwives across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

“Since the initial launch in January 2025, we have distributed 50,000 scrubs and 50,000 pairs of crocs to five geopolitical zones — North Central, North East, North West, South South, and South West. Today in Enugu, the South East receives its share,” she announced.

At the event, Enugu State governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, lauded Mrs Tinubu as “the Florence Nightingale of this era,” commending her for prioritising healthcare and grassroots development. He also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “an epitome of courage and dedication.”

Addressing beneficiaries, Governor Mbah said: “Your kits matter because you matter, and your work matters.”

A highlight of the visit was the presentation of a N50 million grant to support 1,000 women petty traders in Enugu State under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). The empowerment program, the First Lady said, reflects her commitment to economic inclusion and social support for vulnerable women.

Also speaking at the traditional rulers’ forum, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, applauded President Tinubu’s governance and pledged continued support from the royal institution.

“For us here in Enugu, we the traditional rulers say — no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he declared.
