Unknown gunmen have abducted a 71-year-old farmer, Bamidele Mathew, popularly known as Dele Photo, and his 18-year-old son in Odo-Owa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the victims were abducted on Tuesday along the Idofin-Igbana axis of Odo-Owa community while on their way to the farm.

Another son of the farmer, who narrowly escaped abduction, told LEADERSHIP that the gunmen emerged from the bush in large numbers, attacked them at gunpoint and whisked away the elderly farmer and his son.

Efforts by the police and local vigilantes to locate the kidnappers’ hideout and rescue the victims have so far been unsuccessful.

A daughter-in-law of the farmer said the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for the release of the victims.

She appealed to the local, state and federal governments, as well as public-spirited Nigerians, to assist the family in securing the safe release of the abducted farmer and his son.
