Our correspondent gathered from an eyewitness that the gunmen, believed to be cultists, invaded the area in the night and opened fire on customers in an attack that lasted for 30 minutes, killing 10 people on the spot while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the  Benue Police spokesperson, Catherine Anene, said, “Yes, the suspected cult attack at  Akpehe confirmed. Four people were killed while others are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.”

She quoted the commissioner of police, Emenari Ifeanyi, who, within a few hours in the state, as CP, was welcomed with such a crime, warning hoodlums, greeting him in such a way to desist from such acts of criminality, as he will not tolerate crime under his watch.
