Suspected gunmen on Saturday night stormed the residence of the All Progressives Congress (APC), chairman of Asara ward in Gwadabawa local government area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Iliya Agajiba and killed him in cold blood.

They also shot and killed Agajiba’s elder brother, who rushed to rescue him.

A resident of the community, Malam Abdullahi Gwadaba, who told LEADERSHIP of the dastard act, said the assailants numbering about 15, armed with sophisticated weapons, attacked Asara community on Saturday night.

However, some people in the area linked the incident to political assassination while others assumed the murder to be one of the normal insurgency activities happening in the area.

Gwadabawa council is among the areas worst hit by banditry activities in the Eastern flanks of Sokoto State.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the gunmen also rustled cows, and carted away some properties, and reasonable amount of money belonging to the deceased and some community members.

Efforts to get the reactions of Sokoto State police command proved abortive as several calls and text messages sent to the command police public relations officer, DSP Sunusi Abubakar, was neither picked nor answered as at the time of filing this story.
