The Gusau International Airport has recorded a major operational milestone after successfully receiving an aircraft conveying about 500 pilgrims, marking one of the largest passenger arrivals since the facility became operational.

The development was described by officials as a significant test of the airport’s growing capacity to handle large-scale aviation activity, particularly as the state expands its infrastructure base under ongoing development initiatives.

Speaking after the landing yesterday, the supervisory team led by the Zamfara State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lawal Barau Bungudu, said the seamless handling of the passengers reflected sustained technical coordination and improving operational readiness at the airport.

The team also included the Acting Permanent Secretary, Engr. Amiru Musa Anka, alongside technical officers from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

Bungudu said the team had demonstrated “exceptional commitment and dedication” to ensuring the steady development of the airport project.

He added that “the relentless supervision, strategic coordination, and commitment to quality infrastructure have contributed immensely to the remarkable progress achieved at the airport.”

According to him, “This achievement reflects the determination of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to transform critical infrastructure and position Zamfara State as a hub for economic growth, investment, and improved transportation services.”

He further stated that the successful operation underscores the airport’s capacity to support religious, commercial, and economic activities, while improving connectivity between Zamfara State and other parts of Nigeria and beyond.

“The milestone serves as a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure projects that directly improve the lives of citizens and promote the overall development of Zamfara State,” he said.

The landing is expected to further reinforce confidence in the Gusau airport’s operational readiness as the state government continues to position it as a strategic transport and logistics hub in the North-West.
