Hardship: Group Hails Lagos Food Market Initiative

The chairman, The Mandate Movement, Lagos State, Abdullahi Ayinde Enilolobo, has applauded the Lagos State government over its food market initiative tagged: “Ounje Eko” Initiative, saying its proactive step in aiding citizens to cushion the effects of current hardship in the country.

The initiative, titled: “Ounje Eko” food markets was inaugurated by Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu with the aim of providing discounted prices of essential food items to residents across the state.

A statement issued by Prince Adewale Arogundade, on behalf of the chairman of The Mandate Movement expressed appreciation to the state government over the initiative, recognising its potential to alleviate the burden on citizens amidst economic strains.

Under the “Ounje Eko” programme, various staple food items will be available at discounted rates, including rice, beans, garri, tomatoes, and onions, among others.

Furthermore, to ensure transparency and prevent malpractices, the state government has introduced a voucher system, with selected payment solution providers and vendors overseeing the process.

To this end, the group encouraged Lagosians to actively participate in the programme, urging cooperation with operators at the designated market locations. It also emphasised the importance of providing feedback through official channels to enhance the effectiveness of the initiative.

As “Ounje Eko” food markets began operations from Sunday, March 17, The Mandate Movement said, it looks forward to the positive impact this initiative will have on the welfare of Lagos residents.
