In his reaction to the news of the death of the former national chairman of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), a party that once fielded him as a presidential candidate, former President Buhari said the nation had lost “one of its most outstanding scientific minds and intellectuals.”

In a terse statement signed by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, a copy of which was sent to LEADERSHIP, Buhari further said of Onu: “He was an intellectual giant. My heart goes out to his family, the government and people of Abia State and the country at large. May his soul rest in peace.”

LEADERSHIP reports that Dr. Onu, who served in the administration of President Buhari from 2015 to 2023, died on Thursday in Abuja.
