Cross River State coordinator for National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Mrs Margaret Moffi, has revealed that the new act signed into law recently by President Muhammadu Buhari has made   it mandatory for all Nigerians to subscribe to the National Health Insurance Scheme.

The coordinator disclosed this in Calabar yesterday at a sensitisation meeting organised to enlighten stakeholders on the benefits of the NHIA programmes.

Addressing the stakeholders, Moffi said the new Act, signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on May 19, 2022, made it mandatory for all Nigerians to have access to health insurance irrespective of their locations.

On the goal of the agency, which has to do with the attainment of universal health coverage in Nigeria, the state coordinator stressed that NHIA initiated the programmes to ensure that state governments are in tandem with the activities of the authority.

While giving insights into the insurance issue, the coordinator stressed that under NHIA GIFSHIP  programme, an individual needs to pay the sum of N45,000 to  benefit from the yearly healthcare package which  guarantees an  individual  the leverage to add two beneficiaries under him/her.
