A visitation panel from the Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN) has conducted an accreditation exercise at the Department of Health Information Management, Iconic Open University.

A statement by the university’s registrar, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi, on Tuesday, said the panel visited the department to evaluate the entire programme and verify “whether it meets the professional requirements necessary for producing competent B.HIM. graduates qualified to practice in the health records profession.”

He said both the panel and the university management, along with the department’s staff, demonstrated strong commitment to achieving the set goals.

Mr Sanusi reaffirmed Iconic University’s commitments and dedication in meeting the board’s standards and upholding excellence in the B.HIM programme, as well as in all other academic programmes of the institution.

The health programme is among the courses approved for the university by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The HRORBN’s visit comes barely a week after a similar visit to the Iconic university by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

In August, the NUC also approved multiple postgraduate programmes for the institution, including the Master of Public Health and the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health, as part of efforts to deepen professional capacity in the health sector.

Mr Sanusi said the NUC’s approval underscored the university’s compliance with rigorous academic standards, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of the workforce.
