The 2026 Pan-African Game Jam is currently in full swing, bringing together developers from across the continent for a two-week virtual sprint to build games from scratch. Running from April 24 to May 11, the jam is part of the build-up to Lagos Games Week 2026 and is powered by a collaboration with Global Game Jam.
This year’s theme is. “Play Without Borders. Teams are forming across countries, and developers—some solo, others in distributed teams are racing against the clock to turn concepts into playable experiences.
The jam is designed to spotlight African talent, encourage collaboration, and push the continent further into the global games conversation. And with a $2,500 prize pool and the promise of being showcased at Lagos Games Week, there’s real incentive to get it right.
But beyond prizes, this feels like a creative checkpoint. Many of the games emerging from the jam are mobile-first and local, reflecting a shift toward telling African stories through interactive media.
As the May 11 deadline approaches, developers are entering the final stretch—debugging, refining, and polishing. By May 25, when winners are announced, the real takeaway won’t just be who wins, but the growing proof that Africa’s game industry is no longer emerging—it’s building, fast.
