The Kano State Hisbah Board has dismissed as entirely false the viral claims made by Shehu Adamu, a recently released inmate, who alleged widespread abuse, rape, and inhumane conditions at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre in the State.

The board, following an independent investigation, said Adamu’s account was not only fabricated but also part of a pattern of deceit linked to previous fraudulent acts perpetrated by him.

In a video statement, the Deputy Commander of Hisbah, Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen, said the investigation was ordered by the Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“Following his interview where he made all those claims, the Kano State governor directed us to investigate, and Sheikh Daurawa appointed me to lead the team. We visited the prison, interviewed the authorities, staff, and inmates, and found no evidence to support his story,” Aminuddeen stated.

He described Adamu’s allegations as a calculated attempt to malign the state, Islam, and the practice of Shariah in Kano State.

“Nothing he said is true. There was no evidence of rape, hunger, or abuse. His story was concocted to generate controversy and damage the reputation of our state,” he said.

Aminuddeen further alleged that Adamu, whom he claimed also goes by the name Ali, is well known to the Hisbah Board for a series of fraudulent schemes. According to him, Adamu once approached the board under the false pretence of converting to Islam.

“He came to Hisbah claiming his name was Usman and that he wanted to convert to Islam. Later, we discovered his actual name was Ali and he had used that story to defraud people. He even stole items donated to support his wedding. Several complaints have been made against him over the years. This man lacks all credibility,” the Hisbah chief stated.

The Hisbah’s position aligns with an earlier response from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, which denied that Adamu spent nine years in detention at Goron Dutse. They insisted that he was only held for a few months at Kurmawa Custodial Centre on charges unrelated to the robbery case he referenced.

Aminudeen also warned the public against spreading unverified claims on social media, calling on citizens to remain cautious and responsible.

“We will continue our investigation, and we will ensure he is held accountable,” he added.
