The Provincial Secretariat of Church and Society, known as HJDP, has distributed rice to 200 households in Kaduna in partnership with the Global Peace Foundation of Nigeria.
The Secretary of HJDP, Rev. Fr Onuh Ladi Sixtus, during yesterday’s distribution at Kukah Centre, Kaduna, explained that it was part of their assistance to Muslims in the holy month of Ramadan and Christians who are observing Lent.
Sixtus said that the gesture was also to bring unity, peace and religious tolerance among the residents of Kaduna State.
He noted that it was an annual event, saying that in 2024, 2,000 people were fed in two mosques in Jos, Plateau State, and one in Kaduna.
“We are promoting peace, unity and religious tolerance among our people, and we targeted Abakpa and Angwa Shanu to promote interfaith dialogue”.
Sixtus called on the women to preach and promote peaceful coexistence in Kaduna, adding that development would be impossible without peace.
The beneficiaries were vulnerable households in Kaduna drawn from Abakpa and Angwa Shanu communities.
Zainab Isah, Deborah Moses, Ruth Tagwai, and Maryam Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked HJDP for their kind gesture. They promised to be peace ambassadors in their various communities.
