Some hoodlums early yesterday invaded Prime FM 101.5 in Jimbe, Ajaokuta local government area of Kogi State, and stole transmission equipment.
The criminals were reported to have operated comfortably for more than three hours without any interception.
The general manager of the station, MomohJimoh Adeiza, told newsmen that they woke up to discover that the station had been attacked by criminals who took away their broadcast equipment.
“This is a major attack on the station. We are currently off the air right now because our equipment has been stolen by the criminals. When they came, they tied up our security man on duty to carry out their nefarious activities. Where do we go from here now?
“I am calling on security agencies to double their efforts in apprehending the criminals. I have communicated with our zonal director on this sad development,” he said.
Adeiza urged relevant authorities to come the aid of the station to enable it resume operation.
Narrating his ordeal, the security guard on duty identified as Daniel Haruna, said the hoodlums were armed with guns and cutlasses, adding that they left with copper part of the feeder lines, 22 pieces of modules, armoured cables, generator batteries and many more.
“They were more than 10 armed criminals that attacked our station. They came around 1:00am this Saturday morning. When they pointed a torchlight at me, they immediately gripped me and tied me to a tree and blindfolded me.
“I could not scream because I was helpless. They operated for more than three hours before they left our station,” he stated.
