Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has expressed optimism that the ongoing reconstruction of the Concord Hilton Hotel in Owerri would restore the iconic structure to its symbol of hospitality and excellence in the state.

During a stopover at the hotel site, the governor said the progress of work signals a promising outcome.

“The transformation is already evident; the edifice is gradually wearing a new and impressive look. Upon completion, the hotel will embody the true essence of hospitality, perfectly aligned with the high standards it represents. This ongoing renewal is not just structural but symbolic of the excellence we aim to deliver,” Uzodimma said.

The Concord Hilton Hotel, once a glittering jewel of Imo’s tourism and business hospitality sector, had fallen into years of disrepair, becoming a sore sight in the heart of Owerri.

The ongoing revival has therefore sparked excitement and high expectations among residents, business leaders, and hospitality stakeholders who view the project as a turning point for tourism in the state.

According to the governor, many see the reconstruction as a facelift for the facility and a statement of the administration’s commitment to restoring Imo’s lost glories and creating spaces that can attract local and international visitors.

He said, “As the project nears its final stages, debates continue about how best to ensure its sustainability, with calls for proper management, world-class service delivery, and community engagement in maintaining the hotel’s renewed standard.”

The governor’s remarks have set the stage for renewed public interest and discussion on the broader prospects of tourism, investment, and infrastructural renewal in Imo State.
