How To Apply For A Nigerian Driver’s Licence Online

Obtaining a Nigerian driver’s licence has become more convenient, as applicants can now begin the application process online before visiting a Driver’s Licence Centre for biometric capture.

According to information accessed on the Nigeria Driver’s Licence portal on Friday, applicants can complete several stages of the process online, including providing personal information, making payments and scheduling appointments for biometric enrolment.

The digital process is designed to reduce the need for applicants to make multiple physical visits to Driver’s Licence Centres.

Requirements For Applying

Before beginning the application, prospective motorists must meet certain requirements.

Applicants are required to:

  • Attend an FRSC-accredited driving school and obtain a driving school certificate.
  • Have a valid National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Provide a valid means of identification.
  • Provide a recent passport photograph.

Applicants who successfully complete the required stages may be issued a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days while the permanent licence is being processed.

Step-By-Step Guide To Applying

1. Visit the Driver’s Licence Portal

Applicants should visit nigeriadriverslicence.org, the official driver’s licence application portal.

Those accessing the website on a smartphone may need to activate the Desktop Site option in their browser if the portal does not display properly.

2. Select New Driver’s Licence

Once on the portal, applicants should select DL Application and then choose New Driver’s License to begin the process.

3. Enter Personal Details

Applicants will be asked to provide their driving school certificate number and personal information.

It is important to ensure that the names and other details entered match the information linked to the applicant’s NIN to avoid complications during the application process.

4. Choose A Licence Centre And Book An Appointment

Applicants should select their preferred FRSC Driver’s Licence Centre where they will complete biometric capture.

After choosing the centre, they can select an available date and schedule an appointment.

5. Make Payment

Once the appointment has been booked, applicants can proceed to make payment through the Remita payment gateway provided on the official portal.

Depending on the available options, payment may be made using a debit or credit card, bank transfer or USSD.

Applicants are advised to make payments only through the official portal and avoid sending money to individuals or unofficial agents claiming to facilitate the process.

6. Print Receipt And Attend Biometric Capture

After completing payment, applicants should print their payment receipt and attend the selected Driver’s Licence Centre on the scheduled appointment date.

They should also take their original documents to the centre for verification and biometric capture.

Applicants who complete the required process may receive a temporary driver’s licence valid for 60 days while awaiting the permanent licence.

The online application system means prospective motorists can complete much of the process before physically visiting a licence centre, potentially making the application faster and more convenient.
