How To Make Rest Count This Easter

How To Make Rest Count This Easter

Making rest “count” is all about moving from passive scrolling to  active recovery. Since it’s Easter weekend in Nigeria, you have today, tomorrow to still feel refreshed by Tuesday.

Here is how to make the most of it:

 The “Lounge Agenda”

Instead of a “To-Do” list, create a “To-Chill” list. Pick 2–3 things that actually make you feel like you’re on holiday.

The Unhurried Breakfast: Skip the quick cereal. Make something that takes Tim and eat it without looking at your phone.

Body Doubling for Rest: If you’re with family, try “parallel resting.” Everyone stays in the same room reading, napping, or playing a game. It makes resting feel like a shared activity rather than “laziness.”

 Guard Your Digital Gates

The Nigerian “gist” cycle never stops, but your brain needs to.

The 3-Check Rule: Limit yourself to checking social media only three times a day (e.g., 10 AM, 2 PM, and 8 PM) for 15 minutes.

Silence the Pings: Turn off notifications for work or school groups. If it’s truly urgent, they’ll call.

Spiritual & Mental Reset

Early Morning Stillness: If you’re attending Easter services, use the quiet morning time before the house gets noisy to just sit with your thoughts or meditate.

Nature Break: Even 20 minutes of fresh air—a walk around the estate or sitting in a garden—can lower your cortisol levels significantly.

Creative Play over Consumption

Watching Netflix is fine, but it’s “passive.” “Active” rest involves a low-stakes creative task that gets you into a flow state.

Try a new recipe, sketch, or finally start that book you bought months ago. These activities “recharge” your brain’s battery rather than just draining it slower.

The “No” Policy

Easter in Nigeria often comes with “come-over” invitations and family obligations.”No” is a complete sentence. If an event feels like a chore rather than a joy, give yourself permission to skip it so you don’t start Tuesday morning feeling like you need another weekend.
