As of January 2025, Nigeria recorded approximately 142.16 million internet subscriptions, showing how deeply smartphones are embedded in daily life. With this widespread adoption comes an equally booming demand for phone accessories, as consumers look for ways to enhance, protect, and personalise their devices.

The global mobile phone accessories market is on an upward trajectory. In 2022, it was valued at approximately USD 88.07 billion and is projected to reach USD 148.81 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research.

To kick off your business, you need to understand the market landscape and market dynamics. Research the popular phone models in Nigeria and the accessories in high demand. Identify your target customers, are you catering to budget-conscious buyers or those seeking premium products? This insight will help you make informed decisions about the products to offer, pricing strategies, and marketing approaches.

Also, decide on your business model, do you want to operate a physical store, an online store, or both? Each option has its advantages and challenges. Physical stores allow customers to experience products firsthand, while online stores have a wider reach and lower overhead costs.

Regardless of the model you choose, offer a diverse range of products to cater to different needs and budgets.

After you’ve decided on what you’ll be selling, the next step on your list should be sourcing quality phone accessories. Your ability to source quality products at the best price will determine your profit margins. You have two main sourcing options: buying locally or importing internationally.

Buying Locally: If you prefer to start quickly without the complexities of importation, buying from wholesale markets in Nigeria is a good option.

Importing from China: Many successful entrepreneurs import accessories from China because it is often cheaper and offers a wider selection.

However, importing comes with challenges such as customs clearance and shipping delays, so it’s crucial to work with reliable import agents or consolidation services to reduce costs and simplify the process.

Capital

You can start a small-scale phone accessories business with an initial capital of around ₦200,000 to ₦500,000. For a larger-scale operation with a more extensive inventory and shop space, you might need closer to ₦2,000,000 or more.
