Human Resource (HR) expert Jennifer Afolabi is calling on businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to leverage technology to improve their management strategies.
Speaking at a recent event, Afolabi highlighted the growing trend of industries integrating technology and urged HR departments to do the same. She noted that while larger organisations are already using data-driven approaches, many Nigerian SMEs lag behind, missing out on potential for growth and efficiency.
“Continuous adaptation to technological trends is crucial for success, not just in HR but across all sectors,” Afolabi stressed. She emphasised the importance of streamlining tasks and automating routine processes to optimise workflow.
According to Afolabi, technology has increased the demands placed on HR professionals by businesses. They are now expected not only to manage HR processes but also to monitor activities and productivity to improve them. Tools like association management software can assist them in this endeavour.
“Digitization of HR management is critical for navigating the changing dynamics of human capital, especially in the context of Africa’s economic expansion,” Afolabi stated.
She concluded by advocating for a shift in mindset among HR professionals. Technology, she said, has proven beneficial for employee management, enabling employees to reach their full potential while helping companies achieve their goals. This applies to various HR functions, including recruitment, payroll, and talent management.
Afolabi stressed the importance of implementing HR technologies to enhance management practices and optimise efficiency, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the company.
