The facility, designed to support innovation, collaboration, and industry growth, reinforces the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s evolving tech landscape.

The unveiling, which took place at the maiden edition of Huawei Day Nigeria, a three-day event themed ‘Accelerating Industrial Intelligence,’ signals a major step forward in fostering co-innovation with local customers and partners in Nigeria’s ICT ecosystem.

Speaking on the significance of Huawei’s Innovation Center to Nigeria’s digital transformation, the minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy Dr. Bosun Tijani, lauded Huawei and stressed the importance of co-creating, saying, “without partnerships, we can’t drive innovative and modern ways of leapfrogging our economy. That is why, this innovation centre launched today is an important one for us as a government because it offers us the opportunity to co-create the path to our future, ensuring that Nigeria is not just a consumer of technology, but also a nation that can partner with the best companies in the world to develop technology solution that suits our needs.”

In his goodwill message, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, also commended Huawei’s efforts. According to him, “Huawei has not only delivered on its great ambition of 25 years ago when it entered the Nigerian market but has also become an indispensable partner that is significantly contributing to the robustness of Lagos’ ICT ecosystem.”

Referencing a key point mentioned by Huawei Nigeria’s CEO regarding the launch of a local cloud in Nigeria, Sanwo-Olu described the local cloud as ‘a first of its kind achievement’ which the government is proud of as it allows Nigeria localise its data and addresses key data sovereignty concerns which has been one of the country’s greatest challenge.

In line with this, the governor further disclosed that, over the past five years, Lagos has successfully attracted great investment through cutting-edge technologies, and pioneering innovative solutions across various sectors – thereby, providing an opportunity to empower every Lagosian—regardless of background—to engage meaningfully in opportunities presented by technology.

In his welcome address, the CEO, Huawei Nigeria, Chris Lu, commended the Federal Government for its unwavering commitment to accelerating Nigeria’s digital transformation, noting that, “Huawei had been honored to develop in Nigeria since 1999, over the past 25 years, we collaborated with industry leaders and partners in building a solid foundation of digital infrastructure. The Huawei Day Nigeria 2025 event ushers us into the next 25 years of Huawei in Nigeria, as well as a new AI era.”

“AI is not the technology of the future, it is today, it is now. To develop industrial intelligence, we need advanced AI-ready digital infrastructure, from ubiquitous connectivity to modern data center to cloud. On cloud service, the launch of Nigeria’s first Hyperscale Local Cloud by Huawei ensures that businesses can store their data safely in Nigeria, with ultra-low latency, and 24/7 service support.

“Huawei is also integrating digital technology into Nigeria’s power sector by developing advanced solar solutions, which are widely used in industries and rural communities, thus providing green and reliable energy. This approach ensures that AI is not only powerful but also environmentally sustainable,” Lu stated.

Regarding Industrial Intelligence, President of Huawei Data Storage Product Line, Dr. Peter Zhou, stated that, AI is not only benefiting consumers, but greatly encouraging industries, from Autonomous Driving to Fintech, from Power to Transportation, from Mining to Weather Forecast, AI is unlocking solutions once thought impossible.

In his presentation, Dr. Zhou showcased Huawei’s commitment in developing AI-ready infrastructure, building full stack AI capability, including advanced network with ultra-low latency, modern data storage with EB-level large cluster, intelligent computing and cloud services. Likewise, to cope with the demand on massive data volume in the AI era, Huawei innovatively provided AI Data Lake, which empowers industries to efficiently embrace AI.
