Ahead of today’s Nationwide protest against hunger, the Plateau State government and the Coalition of Civil Society Group (CCSG) have distanced themselves from the planned protest by masked men whom they alleged are determined to destabilise the country.

The secretary to the government of Plateau State, (SGS) Arc. Samuel Jatau and the commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Lawal Datti, made the position of the state government known while addressing Plateau youths in a meeting in Jos.

According to them, the state government is not unaware of citizens’ hardships, saying the government is doing everything humanly possible to address some of these challenges to alleviate the suffering of the people.

They pleaded with the youths to consider the fragile peace being enjoyed in Plateau State.
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Plateau State has decided not to participate in the planned national protests slated for August 1st.

The group’s convener, Comrade Prince Miaphen, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Jos.
He warned that nobody should deceive Nigerian youths into throwing the country into chaos because the outcomes of such protests are always regrettable.

“Those telling us about how Kenya should also tell us what is happening in Libya, Sudan, Yemen, Syria and all those places where protests eventually paved the way for wars and anarchy.”

Miaphen argued, “Let us use this opportunity to review the last mass protests called EndSARS. We always avoid speaking about it because of the sadness it evokes for lives and properties lost .”
