Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has launched its Youths Transformation Programme (YTP) aimed at empowering 5,000 unemployed youths and women.
The commission’s managing director, Abubakar Yelwa at the flag-off, said the program was in the desire to improve the living standard of teaming youths across the six HYPPADEC states.
Yelwa explained that partnering with the National Directoriate of Employment, NDE and Minna Institute of Technology and Innovation, MITI, is in line with the federal government’s policy to take off the street through skills acquisition.
He maintained that the beneficiaries cut across the six states with Niger State having about 1,400 participants and will be entitled to some stipends and starter packs for both graduates and non graduates.
Earlier, the rector of MITI, Dr Nana Ibrahim applauded the commission for the foresight, and assured to live to the expectations and will certify only those who performed creditably with good character .
The state commissioner for youth and sports, Alhaji Mamman Musa represented by the permanent secretary, Jonathan Wasa commended the efforts of HYPPADEC and urged the participants to leverage on the opportunity to be self-reliant.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Salihu of people with disability and Zainab Abubakar appreciated the kind gesture of the commission.
